Chinglish

Chinese purists abhor the use of English in place of "proper" Chinese terms and writing.

Apparently, words like "Okay," "Bye, Bye," and "Cool," are springing up in ordinary conversation, and acronyms like "NBA" referring to American professional basketball, very popular in China, are seen in newspapers.

The move is to get rid of all these corrupt Western terms, like "iPhone." Let us hope they continue to waste time trying to "purify" the language. The French have been trying to do that for decades, and the result is an economy and a world position that is of little consequence.

Maybe the Chinese will spend so much time and energy on this that their threat of world economic dominance will be diminished? Maybe so.
